Inspector Gerald "Gerry" Mallory was the replacement and predecessor of Chief Inspector Sullivan. He was transferred from Durham’s police force sometime between Seasons 3 and 4. Like his predecessors, he was exasperated by Father Brown, whom he often sarcastically referred to as "Padre". However, he was a far more zealous (and at times even resourceful) detective, and chased after leads with great enthusiasm, even when they led him to the wrong conclusion.
He leaves Kembleford between Seasons 9 and 10, having requested a transfer to Scotland. According to the returning Sullivan, he did so to get as far away from Father Brown as possible, though the Father says he was assured that it was for the golf.
Appearances[]
He appeared in every episode of Season 4-9, except Season 9 Episode 8 "The Wayward Girls"
Relationships[]
Father Brown[]
Father Brown's meddling and interference greatly annoyed the Inspector, leading to the sarcastic nickname of "Padre". However, in situations outside of mysteries, such as a Christmas Ball, he was somewhat amiable. Father Brown was also one of the few people who annoyed Mallory that he could also snap at, unlike his wife, superiors, or the locals. However, Inspector Valentine gave Father Brown a detective badge apparently "from Mallory. "
Mrs McCarthy[]
He had a cooler relationship with Mrs McCarthy than the other inspectors, as he was neither local like Valentine nor as charming as Sullivan.
Lady Felicia Montague[]
He had a somewhat lecherous eye for Lady Felicia during Season 4 but was viewed with disdain by her.
Sergeant Goodfellow[]
He may have been brusque and demanding of Goodfellow but at the end of the day, they were good friends.
Mrs Mallory and his family[]
He is seemingly trapped in his marriage to his formidable wife. They appear to have quite an unhappy marriage as him working gets in the way of family life, leading her to become more unhappy with him, leading him to work more to get away. He does appear to regret how much of his daughter's childhood he has missed due to work, such as her choir performance in the episode "The Celestial Choir"
Appearance[]
Mallory often wears a white shirt and a faded grey waistcoat and blazer, with a similarly coloured coat. However, he has been seen in other clothing, which he generally despised. He has a moustache, which follows his top lip. His hat is a Trilby hat, which is light brown with a darker brown near the brim.
